The two dogs

In Central America, people who walk home late at night talk about two dogs. One is white and one is black. They are bigger than normal dogs and their eyes shine in the dark. Both are called El Cadejo.

The white one protects you. If you are drunk or lost, it walks behind you until you reach your door. You do not always see it, but the next day someone tells you they saw a white dog following you home.

The black one is the other side of the story. It appears when you have been drinking too much or you are walking where you should not be. People say it does not bite. It simply walks beside you, closer and closer, until you are too afraid to keep going.

The two dogs are said to fight each other. If you hear dogs fighting late at night and you cannot see them, that is what is happening. In the morning nobody finds anything, and everyone tells you it was probably the wind.
